Introducing TwentyShop

TwentyShop - DukaPress TwentyTen Child ThemeWe’re pleased to announce that today we’re releasing TwentyShop which is a TwentyTen (the default WordPress theme) child theme. With TwentyShop, we aim to demonstrate how to include DukaPress CSS in WordPress themes so as to create a unique look for your shop. Basically, it is a quick practical example of how to make DukaPress styling.

We built DukaPress with lots of “CSS hooks” – meaning that everything that DukaPress outputs can be controlled through CSS. You can therefore style every single element of what DukaPress outputs. TwentyShop is a first step in showing you how to do this. We hope to release more and more child themes (and even full blown themes) to demonstrate DukaPress styling in the future.

Let’s get down to business, shall we?

Including DukaPress styling in your theme is a two-step process:

1. You have to disable the “native” CSS that ships with DukaPress. You do this through the functions.php file of your theme. This is how we did it in TwentyShop:

<?php
//disable dukapress css
add_action( 'wp_print_styles', 'my_deregister_styles', 100 );

function my_deregister_styles() {
	wp_deregister_style( 'dpsc_basic_css' );
       // deregister as many stylesheets as you need...
}
?>

When you add the above piece of code to your functions.php, you disable the CSS file that comes packaged inside DukaPress. When displaying DukaPress stuff, no CSS will be applied unless you include DukaPress-specific CSS in your theme’s style.css

2. Having disabled the default DukaPress CSS, you now have to include CSS for DukaPress inside your theme’s style.css. Please have a look at TwentyShop’s style.css to see what we did.

3. You’re done! We encourage you to download and play around with TwentyShop and then port the stuff to your own theme – it is easy!

TwentyShop is a free WordPress child theme for the Twenty Ten theme. TwentyShop is equipped with all the features of the Twenty Ten theme such as:

  • WordPress 3.0 Menus
  • Custom Background Option
  • Header Images Option
  • Featured Post Images Option
  • Widget Ready Sidebars
  • Clean Semantic Web Markup
